In the Bible – in Genesis 38 : 6-9 Onan uses a primitive method of birth control – commonly called “coitus?
interruptus.” Because he did not want to father a child he disengages from his wife Tamar just before he ejaculates and “spilled his semen on the ground.” God is displeased at his actions and kills him. What does this passage say about the suitability of the Bible as a moral guide for the modern world?
In this story, because onan was supposed to father a child by his dead brother’s wife, in order to carry on the brother’s line, but instead “pulled out” to avoid it. God was pissed in this story because onan was shirking his duties, not because of the actual pulling out.
