Youth Bible Studies on Faith

Why Do Many Christians Take it Upon Themselves to Police Sexuality?

While I’m no longer Christian, I grew up in the faith and studied the Bible very carefully as a youth. I FIRMLY believe that the Bible DOES say homosexuality is a sin, despite the historical and intellectual Olympics many attempt to prove otherwise.

That said, I also see NOTHING in the Bible that justifies the policing of homosexuality either. Based on the studying I have done, it seems that the choices a person makes, good or bad, are between him/her and God. That person has to account to God for their sins. By punishing homosexuals (through anti-gay law, social bullying or direct verbal/physical abuse), aren’t many Christians trying to do God’s job FOR him?

My question, how do many Christians explain the act of policing sexuality?

Because it is easier to condemn ’sins’ that someone else is guilty of, than it is to look inside onself and correct one’s own sins.

People can thereby feel that they are ‘promoting’ God’s Word, without making any changes to their own lives.

I would like to see Christians try to overturn liberal divorce laws with the same vigor as they try to stop gay marrige. The fact that they don’t speaks volumes….
